How the insights are generated

Every analysed game already carries an accuracy figure, a centipawn loss, a count of each move grade and an accuracy per phase. The coach aggregates those across your games and applies a short list of rules. Each rule has a threshold you can reason about, for example: the weakest phase is only reported when at least three games contain that phase, a missed-win pattern needs two or more missed wins, and the trend line compares your last five games with the ones before.

Because the rules run on engine data rather than guesswork, the advice is specific: it names the phase, the opening and the number of games involved, and links to the tool that addresses it, such as the opening trainer, the puzzle set or the blunder checker.

Questions

Where does the coach get my games?
From the reports you analyse on this site. They are stored in your browser only; when you open the coach page their summaries are sent to our server to compute the insights, and nothing is kept afterwards.
How many games do I need?
Insights appear from the first game, but phase accuracy and opening trends need at least three games to be meaningful, and the trend comparison needs eight.
Is this a real coach?
No. It is a set of transparent rules applied to Stockfish's evaluation of your moves. It is good at spotting patterns like 'your endgames cost you the most' or 'you lose winning positions', and it links to the tool that addresses each pattern.
Why does it think I played the wrong colour?
Enter your username in the box above the insights. Without it the coach assumes you were the side with the lower accuracy in each game.
